From London with Sinden’s chart to New Zealand with Chaos in the CBD’s, we now continue our ‘Best of 2011’ series by staying down under, where Australian forward thinking music aficionado and tiny pants man Lucid has curated our next chart. It has been an outstanding year for the Melbourne native seeing him become the third artist to release on the groundbreaking Belgian label Pelican Fly, with an EP full of cavernous reverberated bells, warped vocals and piercing synths that garnered huge acclaim. Shortly after this EP he went on to again churn out an EP of a further genre defying magnitude named ‘The New Reprise’ on Nightshifters. Aside from all this, Lucid has had no trouble working his way into the public eye even more, with chasms of free releases. Collections of Ballroom edits on his “I’m Straight EP”, a remix for fellow Pelican Fly affiliate Mister Tweeks and “Fizzy Drink” the product of a collaboration with Sinjin Hawke are the highlights for us in a year where “productive” doesn’t really begin to describe his astounding work rate. It’s fair to say that 2011 was a year where Lucid really began to find his feet musically and build a myriad of fans and followers, but it seems next year promises bigger things for Lucid. With a visit to Europe on the cards and multitudes of tracks following on from this seminal year, we are given even more reason to be excited and we cannot wait for more tracks which twist our brains.
Shout outs and thank you to Lucid for taking time out for the list! X
